Gujarat Govt working on Operation Sindoor memorial park near Pakistan border: Report

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Gujarat is working on a memorial park dedicated to Operation Sindoor — India’s precision strikes on nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir after the 22 April Pahalgam terror attack.

A memorial park honoring India’s defence forces is being developed in Gujarat’s Kutch district, near the India-Pakistan border, and will be named ‘Sindoor Van’ (Forest of Sindoor), as reported by The Indian Express. This region was among the hardest hit during Pakistani attacks.

Construction has already begun, and the memorial is projected to be completed within 18 months, according to officials cited in the report.

Kutch Collector Anand Patel told The Indian Express that the park is a tribute to the solidarity shown by civilians, the Army, Air Force, BSF, and other forces during Operation Sindoor. The initiative is being undertaken by the state forest department.

Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, saw India execute targeted strikes on nine terrorist facilities in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. These were carried out in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives, primarily tourists in Jammu and Kashmir.

In response, Pakistan made unsuccessful attempts to strike Indian military installations on May 8, 9, and 10. India’s countermeasures caused significant damage to key Pakistani military infrastructure, including radar systems, air defence units, air bases, and command centres.

The memorial will occupy eight hectares of land managed by the forest department in Mirzapar, along the Bhuj-Mandvi highway. Notably, this site includes the location where Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the public on May 26 during his first Gujarat visit following Operation Sindoor.
